

Programme syllabus for the module is as follows:

India loses over 110,000 lives to road accidents every year. Most of the victims are in the age group between 18 – 45 years who are on the road come hail, rain or storm. The Planning Commission estimates that this great loss of human resources costs the nation about Rupees 55,000 Crore per year. A large number of accidents could be prevented if drivers and commuter were more aware of the hazards and rules of safe travel. If this was added to a large force of first responders then a large number of mishaps could be put in under check.
Some basic Rules of the Road are:

A water familiarization programme for parents and children aged
3 – 5 years. Himmat has 2 levels for pre-school children to progress through, build confidence and develop new skills.
Swim N Survive – Josh (5-14 years)
A swimming and water safety programme for school aged children between 5 – 14 years. Josh has 4 levels. The initial levels focus on development of foundation skills with the higher levels building on endurance

Keep Watch is a public education programme of Rashtriya Life Saving Society - India, aimed at improving awareness about water environments and safety to prevent deaths due to drowning among children less than
5 years of age.
According to the International Life Saving Federation, “the best scientific evidence available has taught us that 1.2 million people around the world die by drowning every year that is more than two persons per minute. From that more than 50 percent are children.”

Dolphins are expert swimmers, but they still swim together and keep an eye out for each other in the water. Swim With a Buddy is about getting people to go out for a swim with a partner so that they can be safer in water.

RLSS (I)'s LIfesaving programme prepares volunteers to assist those involved in aquatic accidents, by teaching them the knowledge of basic rescue techniques, the skills to perform them and the judgment to act aptly, so that they can be prepared for emergencies.

A lifeguard is a professional, who operates in a team to ensure his venue is safe and popular to clients and visitors. He is a leader, manager, counselor, coach and a PR person for his facility. He prevents accidents and makes a facility safe, a sport engaging and the environment enjoyable and entertaining.
