Road Safety Week, Pune
(19 Feb, 2010)
ROAD SAFETY WEEK PUNE
Road Safety Week was an initiative launched by the Pune Traffic Police and was observed from 4 – 13 January 2010. The event proved to be of great relevance and importance in the city of Pune, unfortunately tagged as the “Accident Capital” of India, which is a great embarrassment to us all. The Rashtriya Life Saving Society (India) felt it necessary to instill safety consciousness among people and highlight the need to observe “RULES OF THE ROAD” to be safe and contribute to reducing road accidents in the city.

A quick brief on the rules of the road |
The Road Safety Initiative was a joint venture of the Pune Traffic Police, Sadhana Centre for Management and Leadership Development (SCMLD) and the Rashtriya Life Saving Society (India) [RLSS (I)]. 25 SCMLD student volunteers, earlier trained as First Aiders participated in the programme with considerable enthusiasm. Volunteers were posted at all major traffic junctions assisting the Traffic Police personnel in directing/managing traffic and reminding road users about simple rules they need to follow. They wore T shirts that conveyed the all important message that “Following Rules of the Road Saves Lives”.
DCP Manoj Patil, Head, Traffic Police, Pune was appreciative of the effort and complimented the participants.
