Nippers is a fun way for children aged 10 to 14 years to enjoy the beach in a safe environment. The Junior Development Program is designed to ensure children have fun at the beach while participating in lessons that will give them a pathway to becoming a fully rounded participant in both lifesaving and life saving sports.Their activities include games, wading and paddling. They do not patrol the beaches nor are they provided specific “Learn to Swim Training” or stroke training. 

Nippers is a seasonal program usually run during the weekends or long holidays. After successful completion of training, certificates of merit are awarded.

These programs are usually conducted for under privileged youth from fishing communities and serve as an opportunity for them to become lifeguards as they reach the age of 16 years and be  able to earn a livelihood.
